Lawrence "Sonny" Max, 91, of Monroe Township, N.J. died on November 26, 2012 at Sibley Memorial Hospital, in Washington, D.C..

Born in Newark, N.J. Mr. Max lived in Springfield for many years before moving to Monroe Township in 1974.  Mr. Max was a graduate of the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.  During WWII he served as a Lieutenant Commander on a Minesweeper in the South Pacific.  Following his military service, he joined his father in the family wholesale meat business, Nathan Max and Son.  Upon retirement Mr. Max enjoyed volunteering his time for over twenty years at Princeton Medical Center where he delivered mail to patients and staff.  He was also active in his Clearbrook community where he served as Section 2 President for many years.  He was also a founding member of Temple Beth Ahm Yisrael of Springfield, New Jersey.

He was predeceased by his wife of over 60 years, Gladys, and is survived by his brother, Sanford of Durango, Co.; his son Kenneth and his wife Patti of Potomac, MD.; and his son Stephen and his wife Evelyn of Springfield.  He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Randi, Nathan, Lindsey, Benjamin, Rachel, Lisa and Staci.
