Elaine Chester (nee Chaiet) passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness.  She was 70.  Born in Jersey City, she lived in Philadelphia, PA., and, Waukegan, IL. before moving to Union, N.J. in 1968. She received a bachelor’s degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University and was a high school teacher in Jersey City, then a Jr. High teacher in Haddenfield before returning to teaching mathmatics to high school students at Union Township High School for 4 years.  While at Union High she formed a theater appreciation club and with her husband, Doug, took many students to numerous Broadway performances.  She was a volunteer for the Jewish Family Services and the Union Township Public Library, a life member of Hadassah and a member of the Women's League of Temple Beth Ahm Yisrael of Springfield and the Organization for Rehabilitation through Training (O.R.T.).  She was avid reader, and mah jongg player and she especially enjoyed celebrating the Jewish holidays, particularly Passover, when her entire extended family would gather at her home.  She loved her extended family including her grand nieces and nephews. She is survived by  her beloved husband of 49 years, Dr. Douglas Chester, and her dear sons, Doctors Adam and Jeffrey Chester, Jeff’s wife, Joyce Chin, as well as her two adored grandchildren, Jaxon Thomas Chester and Jayden Jett Chester.  She is also survived by two brothers, Ralph and Alvin Chaiet.
