Scott Jay Spinner died peacefully on January 16, 2018 at Albany County Nursing Home.  He was 65  and is survived by his devoted cousin, Meryl (Ron) Glassman of West Palm Beach, Florida and many friends in the Albany area.  Born in the Bronx, New York, Scott grew up in North Woodmere, NY and moved to Albany in 1970. His cremains were buried near his parents’ resting place in Paramus, New Jersey on January 25, 2018.

Scott studied philosophy at SUNY Albany and this became a lifelong interest as he read from Alan Watts, Ram Dass and many others.  Over the years, Scott could be found reading and drinking hot chocolate at various spots in the Pine Hills neighborhood.  A vegetarian who volunteered or shopped weekly at the Honest Weight Food Coop, Scott also worked at the former Ribbon Grass Restaurant and Shades of Green among other area restaurants.  Scott was a Yankees fan and a tennis player, returning to Queens every year to attend the U.S. Open.

Scott will be remembered for his sweet and gentle nature, his unassuming intellect and warm sense of humor (“What did the Buddha say to the hotdog vendor?  Make me one with everything.”). Even though he endured many hardships, he practiced living in the moment and always enjoyed reaching out to others, spreading love and laughter like few others. Especially near the end of his life, Scott never tired of saying “I love you”.

There will be a gathering to reflect on Scott’s life, and his impact on ours, on Sunday, February 11, 2018, at the Honest Weight Food Co-op at 5:30 pm. All are welcome.
