Richard Donald Shipman passed away peacefully on Sun., Nov. 13, 2016.  He was 88.  Born in Newark,  he lived in Orange, Springfield, for almost 50 years, then West Orange for 10 years before moving to Whippany 2 years ago.  He earned a B.S. in business administration from Rutgers University, class of 1950. He then went on to serve in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant during the Korean War, and, upon completion of his active service he continued in the Ready Reserves.  Professionally, he was a sales representative in the food industry for 50 years.  He was very proud of his military service and was an active member of the Jewish War Veterans serving as a Post Vice-Commander and Commander of the Elin-Unger Post of the JWV.  He was a former Board Member of Temple Beth Ahm Yisrael and chair of the “Not Just Lunch” senior program and a member of B’nai B’rith both of Springfield.  He was married to the late Ruth Shipman for 63 years.  He is survived by a son, Marc (Cathy) Shipman of Warren, N.J., and two daughters, Robin Shipman of Florham Park, N.J., and Susan Shipman-Joy (and the late Dennis Joy) of Nahant, MA.  He is also survived by 7 grandchildren; Sarah (Ryan) Nodes, Daniel (Kate) Halle, Greg (Deanna) Shipman, and Samantha Schneiderman as well as 3 great-grandchildren; Erin, Sean and Eleanor.
