Esther Anne Sourifman passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 29, 2015.  She was 97.  Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she lived most of her life in Jersey City, N.J. before retiring  27 years ago to Raleigh, NC where she lived until last year, when she returned to Cranford, New Jersey.  She had worked as a bookkeeper for various companies for over 50 years including the Polly Bergen Company’s cosmetics line, in New York City. She also held a realtors license and sold real estate in the Jersey City area.  She was a member of Hadassah and was a life member and past president of the Mt. Sinai Congregation of Jersey City Heights, Jersey City, N.J..  She is survived by her daughter, Ilene Freedman (and her companion Jeffrey Horowitz) of Raleigh, NC., daughter, Janice  Rosenkrans (and her husband Dirk) of Cranford, N.J., son-in-law Joel Caplin  (husband to Esther’s late daughter, Rhea Caplin) of Connecticut,  brother Martin Rosenthal and his wife Florence of Toms River, N.J., 7 grandchildren, Daniel Caplin and Brian Freedman both of Atlanta, GA., Michelle Rosenkrans of Cranford, N.J., Sheryl Freedman of Washington, D.C., Andrea Rosenkrans of Hollywood, FL., Paul Caplin of Raleigh, NC., Alan Rosenkrans of Bethlehem, PA. and 2 great-grandchildren, Silas Kapner and Eli Kapner both of Washington, DC..  Donations in her memory may be made to either the Rhea Sourifman Caplin Scholarship Fund, c/o The Jewish Community Foundation, 333 Bloomfield Ave., Suite D, West Hartford CT., 06117, the Raleigh-Cary Jewish Family Services, 8210 Creedmore Road, Raleigh, N.C. 27613 or the charity of your choice.
