Stanley Stern passed away on Friday, April 4, 2014 after a brief illness.  He was 90 years old.  Mr. Stern worked as a Podorthist, a maker of custom shoe orthotics for various companies for over 15 years, last working for Footsaver in Bloomfield, N.J..  He was licensed to prescribe custom shoes and had managed several shoe stores.  He retired 15 years ago.  He earned a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Virginia and did graduate work in Chemistry at N.Y.U..  He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.  He was an active volunteer for Morristown Memorial Hospital for several years and while living in Monroe Township he was active in the Clearbrook Community's video program.  Born in New York City he lived in Hoboken, North Bergen, Hillsdale, Bayonne, Lakewood, Monroe and Whippany before moving to Woodcliff Lake, N.J. in 2013.  He was married to the late Phyllis Farber and after she passed away he was the companion to the late Florence Frischman for many years.  He is survived by his beloved daughter, Robin (and her husband Dennis) Gudgel of Illinois, his dear sons, William (and his wife Amy) Stern of Plainsboro, N.J., and Jamie (and his wife Jeannene) Stern of River Vale, N.J., his step-children Michael (and his wife Danielle) Farber of Montreal, Canada, and Ellen Farber of North Carolina,  as well as the sons of his beloved Florence Frischman; Bill, Gary and Dan Frischman.  He is also survived by his devoted sister Ruth Goldman and his adoring grandchildren Mollie, Chasen, Hayley, Mia, and Anya, his step-grandchildren J’eremy and Gabrielle, his step- great-grandchild Miriam and the grandchildren of Florence Frischman. 

Donations  in his memory may be made to the Carol G. Simon Cancer Center at  Morristown Memorial Hospital, Morristown, N.J.
