Robert Russell Wyckoff passed away on Friday, January 31, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Newark, N.J., on January 1, 1950, he lived in Westfield, N.J. until 1980 when he moved to Scotch Plains, N.J. He held a B.A. from Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. A former owner and editor of The Suburban News, he spent his entire career in printing and publishing. Most recently, he was employed by Gator Communications in Fairfield, N.J. A gifted writer and designer as well as an ardent Apple aficionado, he enthusiastically adopted new digital opportunities to enhance his work and his numerous charitable endeavors. He was a member of Congregation Beth Israel of Scotch Plains and active in its Men’s Club and Congregational Choir. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara (nee Finkelstein). He was predeceased by his father Russell L. Wyckoff. He is survived by his mother Doris M. Wyckoff of Atlantis, Fla, his sister Susan Wyckoff Fell of Atlantis, Fla, brother Douglas L. Wyckoff (Janice) of Rahway, N.J., mother-in-law Joan Finkelstein of Springfield, N.J, sister-in-law Susan Summer (Roy) of Katonah, N.Y, brother-in-law Richard (Debbie) Finkelstein of West Orange, N.J., eight nieces and nephews and seven grand nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements are by Ross Shalom Chapels, Springfield, NJ. A funeral will be held at Congregation Beth Israel, Scotch Plains, N.J., on Monday, February 3, at 11:00 a.m. with interment following at Fairview Cemetery, Westfield, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Patient Assistance Fund at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center or a charity of your choice.
