Born February 20, 1951 in Brooklyn, NY as Barbara Finkelstein, she will always be Bonnie to us. Bonnie, a life-long non-smoker, passed away on Sun. Nov. 24, 2013 after a courageous three year battle against metastatic lung cancer. She touched the lives of everyone who knew her, and will always be remembered for her positivity, her charismatic personality and her selfless commitment to her family and friends. Funeral services will be conducted 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov.. 25, 2013 at Temple Emanu-El, 756 East Broad Street, Westfield, N.J. with interment immediately following at Beth David Cemetery, Kenilworth, N.J.  Arrangements are by Ross’ Shalom Chapels, 415 Morris Ave., Springfield, N.J..  To leave an e-condolence please go to www.rosschapels.com.

As a young child, Bonnie moved with her parents, the late Moe and Natalie (Cohen) Finkelstein, and her sister Rae Brounstein, to Maplewood N.J.. She attended Columbia High School, and went on to earn a bachelor of arts from Upsala College. She later completed a master of arts in speech pathology at Kean University and began a career of over twenty years treating patients with aphasia and mild brain injuries, primarily at Morristown Memorial Rehabilitation Institute. As a speech pathologist, she was an active member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and certified CCC-SLP.

She enjoyed reading, playing the piano, listening to music, exercising, food and wine, yoga and meditation, following her favorite television shows, travel, visiting New York, attending broadway shows, talking on the phone and, most of all, spending time with her family and many friends. Bonnie and her daughter Lisa participated in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in 2006. As part of the 2013 American Cancer Society Relay for Life, Bonnie was a featured speaker and ribbon cutter. She and her team of family and friends were active in the Relay for Life for several years. She was also a member of Flo Okin Cancer Relief, Temple Emanu-El of Westfield and its Sisterhood.

Surviving are her beloved husband Jeffrey; son Michael (and fiancee Angela Yeh) and daughter Lisa Afflitto (and husband Aaron); grandson Jacob Afflitto; sister Rae Brounstein (and husband Alan); sister-in-law Nancy (Feldman) Maccarelli (and husband Warren); brother-in-law Robert Feldman; mother-in-law and father-in-law Rose and Harvey Feldman; nephews and nieces: Jill (Bussin) Weinreb (and husband Seth and son Ben); David Bussin (and wife Liliana, daughter Mia and son Max); Andrew Maccarelli (and wife Kate); Philip Maccarelli (and wife Fernanda).
